How are ARPA funds being spent?

Sikeston, one of 15 Missouri communities, has received $2.5 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) for infrastructure improvement. Our Republican state representatives Jason Smith, Josh Hawley, and others voted against this Bill. Since Sikeston received these funds, I don’t recall seeing anything published in the Standard Democrat where these funds are intended or have been spent. One would think the city leaders of Sikeston would share this information to the voters who elected them.

An article ran in the Wednesday, June 21 edition of the Standard Democrat.

Misinformed on gun background checks

In reference to the caller posted on June 9 in Speakout who stated that a universal gun check has a waiting period of six months and a $200 fee when buying a gun. I have only heard of a universal “background check” and not a “universal gun check.” Missouri had a background check when buying a handgun several years ago which had about a five-day waiting period with no fee at all. I think this caller is getting his information from an unreliable source or is just making up lies to create fear of possible future gun regulation.

You can always learn something

Yes, I am 75 years old and don’t tell me you can’t learn something. I went to Cape Girardeau today to take my sister to the doctor, and coming back, a really, really nice highway patrolman stopped me on Interstate 55 because I was in the passing lane going too slow. But he didn’t know I had a 65-year-old sister in the back seat, saying: You can’t get over. You can’t get over. Then I came home and I put on a load of laundry and I forgot to remove the personal pad that you put in your panties and it ruined my washing machine and my dryer and my clothes. So don’t tell me you can’t learn something cause you sure can.
