SIKESTON — Genene G. Parker, age 78, of Sikeston died Monday, June 26, 2023, in Glasgow, Kentucky.

She was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Glasgow, to the late Virgil T. and Florence Irene Vance Grinstead. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Parker, whom she married on May 29, 1965. They were married 57 years.

In 1974, George and Genene moved to Sikeston with their family to open Long John Silver's—which they operated until their retirement in 2016. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sikeston, where she was actively involved in various church committees.

She is survived by her two children, daughter Kelley (Bryan) Lewis and son Kristopher T. Parker; her grandchildren, Zachary T. Miller, and Mackenzie Lynn Parker; her stepgrandchildren, Tate and Harper Lewis; her sisters, Dorris Polson, Judy Waller and Jo (Leon Shirley) Poynter; and brother, Jerry Grinstead; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Estep.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, June 29, 2023, at McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Visitation will then be held from noon until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow.

Interment will follow in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
