James Burchfield

SIKESTON — James E. Burchfield, age 90, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1932, in Union Township, Arkansas, to the late John Lee and Mary Edna Wofford Burchfield.

On Nov. 3, 1956, in Uma, Arizona, he married Martha Rea Burchfield who preceded him in death on June 21, 2023.

He was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1972. He retired in 1992 from Forbis Supply House in Sikeston after 20 years in counter sales.

He is survived by two sons, Steve Burchfield of Sikeston and Jim Burchfield of Sikeston; one daughter, Karen (Steve) McCoy of Ochlocknee, Georgia; two sisters, Wanda Dye of Florida and Pasty Oswald of Kennett, Missouri; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Milburn Burchfield, Vernon Burchfield, Garland Burchfield, Rudy Burchfield, Wendell Burchfield, Hart Burchfield and Harold Burchfield; and four sisters, Una Mae Rhodes, Elizabeth Burchfield, Maxine Curtis and Faye Cunningham.

A family graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston with Military Honors.
