New Madrid County R-1 school open houses scheduled

NEW MADRID, Mo. —As the days of summer vacation tick down, school officials are looking to the start of the 2023-24 school year.

Classes for New Madrid County R-1 students in kindergarten through 12th grade begin Aug. 21. For youngsters in pre-kindergarten, the first day of class is Aug. 23

Children new to the district, should enroll as soon as possible, officials said. For further information regarding New Madrid County Central High School call 688-2161; New Madrid County Central Middle School call 688-2176; New Madrid Elementary School call 748-5568; Lilbourn Elementary call 688-2593; and Matthews Elementary call 471-0077.

Open house at the Central Middle School and the Central High School will be from 3-6 p.m. Aug. 16 with freshmen orientation from 5-6 p.m. that day. All elementary open houses will be from 3-6 p.m. Aug. 17.

New Madrid County R-1 will transition to a new student information platform for the 2023-2024 school year. Online Registration will open Aug. 1.

Parents should watch for an email on how to setup a parent portal account

Also children entering kindergarten, eighth grade and 12th grade are due for immunizations.

The New Madrid County Health Department offers immunizations from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment, parents should call the Health Department at 573-748-5541.
