NEW MADRID, Mo. — A man is facing sodomy charges, and police are asking the public’s help to determine if he has victimized more than one person.

Eric Banks, who recently moved to New Madrid, is charged with first degree sodomy and second degree kidnapping. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges at 9 a.m. Sept. 21 in Division II of New Madrid County Circuit Court.

Banks was taken into custody July 23 after the New Madrid Police Department received a report of suspicious activities. According to the Department’s report, Banks, who is a registered sex offender, was frequenting city parks in an attempt to communicate with teenage boys.

One victim was identified by authorities, however, they suspect Banks may have other victims who have not come forward.

“While suspects are innocent until proven guilty, and we try to always respect the privacy of victims and the accused on social media, we also have an obligation to protect the public by giving them information that may prevent further victimization,” authorities stated.

They urged the public if they or someone they know was abused by Banks to contact the New Madrid Police Department at 573-748-5901.
