SIKESTON — Poppy to many, Dad to a couple, brother to a few, and beloved husband to one. Robin Lynn Newman left this painful world to go to his eternal home on Aug. 28, 2023, surrounded by his family and holding hands with his wife of 44 years.

Rob was born Jan. 15, 1958, in Sikeston, to Herman and Clara Newman. His childhood was spent on the family farm in Tanner, Missouri, with his daddy, sisters, (Charlotte Northcutt and Sandy Bloemer), brother (Gary Newman), several nieces and nephews. He graduated high school in 1976, where he was a force to be reckoned with on and off the football field, and then he continued on farming with his family and friends.

In 1979, he married the love of his life and best friend, Becky Newman. That’s when the party really got started. The two were married for 44 years. They farmed, traveled, laked, enjoyed haunted houses, concerts, and sitting at home with their dogs with the TV volume all the way up. They had two boys, Justin and Austin Newman, and Mark Newman, whom Rob always called his other son. Justin and Austin both farmed with their dad at one point and learned the lay of the land. They also learned how to be the life of the party and add a little extra orneriness to everyone’s life. As the kids grew up and started families of their own, Rob continued to farm and offer the best unsolicited advice.

If you knew Rob, you know he loved God, family, farming, restoring cars, farming, cooking, farming, hunting, farming, fishing and farming, in that order. He retired from farming due to health, in 2010. He retired again in 2017. Again, in 2019, 2021, and again in 2023 for a short period because heaven’s gonna have the best crops up there now.

As if Rob wasn’t blessed enough, his boys got married to two daughters in law that loved him dearly, Courtney Newman and Jordi “George” Newman. Courtney and Justin blessed Rob with four more Newman boys: Mason, Owen, Westin, and Ethan, who carry on that Newman reputation in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Austin and Jordi provided one more ornery Newman boy, Flynn, to keep the party going in Sikeston.

Over the years, Rob spent time restoring cars, farming, hunting, and causing trouble in the deer woods. He traveled with Becky and the families and provided the best laughs and stories along the way. Rob’s hobbies were many, but mostly, he just enjoyed farming, playing the guitar, and spending time with his best friend, Becky. He was welcomed in heaven by his parents, Clara and Herman Newman, and his brother, Gary. Always remember, “When you’re dead, you’re a dead peckerhead.”

We’d like to invite you to one more of Rob’s infamous fish fries at his memorial farm party at Newman Farms on Sept. 9, 2023, at from 3 p.m. until the party ends. He wants to be the “life of the party” one more time.

Honorary hosts of the party: Mark Newman, Randy Northcutt, Mike Hamra, Dennis Cline, Steve Plunk, Jeff Baker, Steven Burch, Mark Becker, Kent Shaw and Buzz Ferrell.

Of course, Rob would want us to mention all his friends who have passed recently whom welcomed him to the party in heaven, where they’d been saving his seat, waiting for him to make his presence known. We know his mom and dad were standing there with open arms as well.
