Jimmie Russell

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Jimmie Dale Russell, age 75, passed away Oct. 1, 2023, at his home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

He was born Dec. 8, 1947, in Malden, Missouri, son of the late Raymond Lee Russell and Thelma Omega Stocks-Russell.

Jimmie was of the Baptist faith, and his forever home church was Canalou Baptist Church. He graduated from college in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.  He worked as a carrier for the US Postal Service for 50 years, having received a Safe Driving Award, an award for saving his sick leave, and a 50-year pin.  He was a member of Sikeston Masonic Lodge #310 since 1981, receiving his Master Mason.

He is survived by one son, David Lee Russell of Canalou, Missouri; one daughter, Julie (Matthew) Strebler of Canalou; three sisters, Wanda McBride of Arnold, Missouri; Ramona Sue (Marion) Vernon of Bernie, Missouri; and Julah Louise Boyd of Festus, Missouri; two grandchildren, Caleb (Alyssa) Russell of Sikeston, Missouri; and Hunter Strebler of Canalou; one great-grandchild, Octavia Russell; and one best friend, Jimmie White of Poplar Bluff .

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, at Ponder Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 12:30 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Brother Fred Ritter of Marble Hill, Missouri, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Sikeston Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Russell, Hunter Strebler, Jimmie White, Matthew Strebler, Danny Vernon, Johnny Vernon, and Terry McBride.

Honorary pallbearer will be Steve McMillan.
