NMCC celebrates seniors: Participants in football, cheerleading, band recognized

NEW MADRID, Mo. - Nearly two dozen New Madrid County Central High School students were honored Oct. 13 during “Senior Night” for members of the football team, cheer squad and band.

Ten members of the football Eagles were honored.

Jadis Jones was escorted by his parents Craig Perkins and Lanikki Jackson. Jones participated in high school football for three years and was named to the All-Conference, All-District, All-Region and All-State football teams. He plans to attend Coastal Carolina where he will play football and basketball while majoring in finance with a minor in international business.

Escorted by his aunt, Kemisha Maxwell, Jason Jones has participated in football all four years of high school and was named to the All-Conference and All-Regional football teams. After high school he plans to attend Lincoln University where he will major in athletic training.

Participating in high school football for two years, Tayven Lyles was named to the All-Conference and All-Region football teams. He was escorted by his father Richard Williams and his sister Jamia Wallace. Following high school he plans to become a photographer.

Ayden McCanless was escorted by his parents Shawn and Amy Walker. He has participated in football for one year and plans to work for the railroad.

The ten senior members of the New Madrid County Central High School football team were honored prior to the NMCC-Sikeston High School football game on Oct. 13. Escorted by his parents Byron Minner and Veronica Hamilton, Kayden Minner has participated in football all four years in high school and was named to the All-Conference, All-Region, All-District and All-State football teams. He plans to attend Missouri State University and major in mechanical engineering.

Participating in high school football for two years, Rel Newsom was named to the All-Conference and All-Region football teams. He plans to attend Lincoln University, where he will major in law enforcement. He was escorted by his grandmother Terrlyn Newsom.

A.J. Ruff was escorted by his parents Antjuan Ruff and Angela Bashley and Sontino Bashley. A three-year participant in NMCC football, Ruff was named to the All-Conference and All-Region football teams. He plans to attend college where he will continue his athletic career.

Escorted by his parents Felawn and Sommers Smith, Samir Smith participated in high school football four years earning All-Conference and All-Region honors. He plans to attend Ranken Electrical Trade School following graduation.

Senior Ty Williams was escorted by his mother Frederica Williams, senior adopter Deondray Jenkins, and girlfriend Brooklyn. A four-year participant in NMCC football, Williams plans to attend Dyersburg State University and play baseball.

A three-year participant in football at NMCC, B.J. Williamson was named to the All-Conference, All-District, All-Region and All-State football teams as well as named “Scoring Champion” in the SEMO Central Conference in 2022. He was escorted by his parents Brandon Williamson Sr. and Tacora Robinson.

The NMCC football cheer team includes three seniors.

Shawna Robinson was escorted by her parents Shawn and Shawnda Robinson, Camron Robinson and Anthony Robinson. An NMCC cheerleader for four years, she earned All-American honors all four years and serves as cheer captain this year. She plans to attend Three Rivers College and become a traveling registered nurse.

Four-year cheerleading participant Kylee Sturgeon was escorted by her mother Shanan Sturgeon, her grandparents, Danny Farrenburg and Dana Farrenburg, and her sisters, Karlee and Kaylee. She plans to attend the University of Missouri where she will major in health sciences.

Also a four-year participant in cheerleading at NMCC and a cheer captain, Lauren Wescoat was escorted by her parents Russ Wescoat and Natalie Wescoat. She plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in early childhood education.

Nine marching band seniors were recognized.

Malia Birdwell, who was escorted by Harold and Lois Pruitt. has participated in band all four years at NMCC and currently serves as captain of the color guard. She plans to attend Three Rivers College then transfer to State Tech to become a radiology technician.

Escorted by her parents Richard and Maria Carrisalez, Briana Carrisalez has participated in band for four years at NMCC. She plans on becoming a real estate agent.

A four-year participant in band, Katelyn Helmes was escorted by Sherry Givens. She plans on attending Murray State University to earn a degree in social work.

Luke Johnson, a four-year NMCC band member, was escorted by his parents Jacob and Shelly Johnson. He plans to attend Union University where he will participate in the 3+2 Athletic Training Masters Program.

A member of the color guard and a four-year NMCC band participant, Lataysia Resonno was escorted by her mother LaCrisha Branch and her brother Charlie Resonno. She plans to attend college where she will participate in track and field and earn a degree to become an ultrasound technician.

Aquira Smith was escorted by her mother Kashina Smith and Isaac Smith and Betty Pratcher. The four-year NMCC band participant plans to attend Three Rivers College and major in diagnostic medical sonography.

Escorted by C.J. and Karrah Hadley and Bill Tanner, Kamille Tanner is a four-year NMCC band member. She plans to attend the University of Florida where she will study environmental science.

A four-year member of the NMCC band, Majaylen Thornton was escorted by her mother Markita Seuell.

Also a four-year NMCC band participant, Tyler Woods was escorted by his mother, Ashley Joiner, and his grandfather, Earl Crawley. He plans to attend the National Aviation Academy and become an aviation mechanic.
