Marie Harper

SIKESTON — Marie Harper, age 98 and a longtime resident of Sikeston, passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2023, at La Bonne Maison.

Marie was born on Oct. 19, 1925, to Gertie and Herman Bulger in Butler County, Missouri.

On June 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to J.D. Harper of Campbell, Missouri. They were the parents of three daughters: Judy Lankheit (deceased), Jan Barkett (Phil) and Nancy Williams (Terry). She was Mima to Phillip Barkett III (Amy Lester), Elizabeth Skidmore (Greg), Justin Lankheit (Melissa), Jacob Lankheit (Lilly), Jeffrey Nickell (Kelsie), Sara Williams, Tara May and 11 great-grandchildren. She was Aunt Marie to six nieces. She is survived by her sister, Alma Jones (John) and her brother, Marvin Bulger (Kay).

She was preceded in death by one sister, Jerry Griffin, and one nephew, David Griffin.

Marie was a talented seamstress, cook and wonderful homemaker. She loved to bake and was an especially great pie maker. She will be remembered by many who received one of her beautifully crocheted afghans. She called it her therapy. We called it love. One of her greatest pleasures was volunteering at Missouri Delta Medical Center for over 20 years.

Marie was a member of the First Christian Church in Sikeston for many years where visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Interment service to be held privately.

Nunnelee Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
