Sikeston Lions Club readies to offer its first dine-in chili day since pre-COVID

SIKESTON—Celebrate the fall season and chilly weather with savory warmth at the Sikeston Lions Club’s 48th Annual Chili and Super Chili Dog Day.

The Sikeston Lions Club will hold their annual event this year on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Sikeston, across from the Sikeston High School field house.

Boyd Green, president of the Sikeston Lions Club, said the club will serve in-person dining for the first time since COVID-19. Green said COVID-19 forced the club to only serve carry-out or delivery, and they are thrilled to have in-person dining back.

“We’re very excited about that because that gives us the ability to see the community and to set down and eat with our friends and neighbors,” Green said.

The club will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with tickets costing $10 per person.

Green said anyone attending is welcome to eat chili and/or a super chili dog.

“The super chili dog is a jumbo size hot dog that you can have with or without a bun or however you see fit,” Green said.

There will be desserts and drinks in addition to the chili and super chili dogs.

According to Green, the club serves approximately 1200 meals every year and anticipates a similar turnout for this year’s event.

The Sikeston Lions Club has been putting on the Chili and Super Chili Dog Day event for nearly half a century, and Green highlighted how it is a Sikeston tradition.

“The citizens of Sikeston have always been very supportive of the Sikeston Lions Club,” Green said. “The food is great, and the fellowship is even better.”

Green encouraged the community to attend the annual event, explaining that it is for a good cause and that all proceeds raised benefit Lions Club projects.

“All of the fundraising that we do, we turn it right back around and pour it into our community,” Green said. “In terms of various contributions and donations.”

Tickets are available for purchase from any Lions member, at the door, or by calling 573-472-0397 or 573-471-1137. Carry out orders will also be available.
