Thoughts on the Scott County sales tax

Glad to see that Scott County voters rejected another half-cent sales tax increase. Between the cities, counties and state, sales taxes are pushing the near 10% mark. In the last several years the state has increased the gasoline tax. The cities, counties and state now collect use tax on auto sales from out of state purchases. All internet purchases are now taxed. Cities have renewed or increased local sales taxes. Of course, they now collect sales tax on marijuana sales. They have been given millions of dollars for new infrastructure, so they now need less money for new building projects. Cities and counties have plenty of money coming in. They need to use the increased money wisely and stop wasting dollars on unnecessary wasteful projects. The increasing of new, and renewing expired one-time taxes must end. Enough is enough!

I’m so disappointed in Scott County voters for not approving the half-cent sales tax. Do you not see the county roads and bridges? They need to be fixed and this sales tax would have been the answer. Also the courthouse, jail and judicial building need improvements made. This sales tax would have also funded that. Times are hard at home, and they are hard for local government and businesses, too. I would much rather have the people who visit our county and drive the roads to help pay for much-needed improvements than for only Scott County residents to pay for it. Wake up, people. And vote yes next time.
