Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office managed nearly 5,000 calls in 2023
CHARLESTON, Mo. — The Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office released its annual calls for service report for 2023.
“Our average response time was 11 minutes, and our average on-scene time was 30 minutes,” Mississippi County Sheriff Britton H. Ferrell said.
In 2023, the sheriff’s office received the following number of calls: 162 for medical plus 911; 58 animals calls; 95 assaults; 366 assists of other agencies, including 15 involving children; 211 assist citizens and well being checks; 74 domestic assaults; 129 motor vehicle accidents; 90 search warrants; 32 sex offender (checks and arrests); 106 calls for suspicious activities, people or vehicles; 300 transports (including court, prison and mental health unit; 831 traffic stops; 94 warrant arrests; and six federal indictments.
These numbers only represent a portion of what the sheriff’s office does every year, Ferrell said, adding the office managed over 4,888 calls and averaged 2,311 people in and out of jail this year.
“I am sharing these numbers with you as part of our ongoing promise to be transparent about what your office is doing,” Ferrell said. “However, I will brag on my staff as they continue to do the job the right way (while understaffed), representing law enforcement and Mississippi County to the best of their ability.
