Cape Girardeau man arrested for homicide in Charleston
CHARLESTON, Mo. — A Cape Girardeau, Missouri, man faces charges for the New Year's Day murder of a Caruthersville, Missouri, man in Charleston.
Jimmy Hudson III, 18, of Cape Girardeau is charged with first degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance, according to Charleston Department of Public Safety Director Robert Hearnes.
At about 4 a.m. Jan. 1, officers of the Charleston DPS responded to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of West Ada Street. A responding officer found a male with several gunshot wounds; he died a short time later and was identified as 20-year-old Malik E. Jone of Caruthersville.
“A homicide investigation began, and our agency was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office,” Hearnes said.
That investigation led to a w arrant for Hudson's arrest, Hearnes said. Hudson was arrested in Cape Girardeau and will soon be returned to Mississippi County, Hearnes said Wednesday, Jan. 24. Hudson is being held without bond.
