Sikeston DPS: Lock vehicles and remove valuables

Tuesday, February 13, 2024

SIKESTON — As the weather begins to warm up and residents are outdoors more, Sikeston Department of Public Safety reminds citizens to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables.

“Sikeston Department of Public Safety has had several reports of items being stolen from vehicles,” Sgt. Tyler Rowe, public information officer for Sikeston DPS. “From what we have noticed is that the majority of these vehicles being broke into are unlocked and parked at a residence.”

Rowe said DPS is also asking citizens who observe any suspicious activity on their home cameras to please provide that information with DPS so officers can continue to track and identify all suspects involved in the thefts.

“We are asking the community: ‘If you see something, say something,’” Rowe said.

Anyone who knows of someone stealing items from a vehicle, call 573-471-4711 and report the information. If the caller wishes to remain anonymous, they can use DPS’ tip line 573-475-3774.
