SIKESTON — After serving 15 years as a Sikeston Public Schools Foundation trustee, Amy Blanton recently decided to retire from the board.

Blanton has served as a trustee or director of the Foundation since March 2009 when she first joined the R-6 Board of Education. She has served five three-year terms — three of those terms as the representative from the Board of Education while she served on the school board from 2009 to 2017. She spent two years serving as the SPS Foundation director from 2019-2021.

Blanton was recognized by the Natalie Bohannon, district liaison for the Foundation, during the Tuesday, March 12 Sikeston R-6 school board meeting at Central Office.

“During her time as a trustee, she has spent countless hours growing and strengthening our Foundation by starting the alumni association, planning and executing multiple fundraisers and perfecting our data filing downstairs,” Bohannon said of Blanton. “We are thankful for her organization. She created a calendar/business plan to ensure her smooth running long after her time as director.

She continued: “That’s just a few of the ways she has positively impacted the Foundation. It is safe to say she has been a huge asset to getting the Foundation where it is today and ‘we’ being everyone in this room want to say thank you, Amy.”

Blanton was then presented with a plaque on behalf of the district from R-6 Board President Matt Drake.
