Scott Central FBLA, Beta Club team up to offer trivia event

SIKESTON — Scott County Central’s High School FBLA and Beta Club are collaborating to host a trivia night fundraiser to supplement their budget for upcoming state and national conferences.

The trivia night will take place April 5 in the Ronnie Cookson Gymnasium. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., but the trivia event will start at 6 p.m. There will also be a silent auction.

According to Pamela Glasener, high school business teacher who also sponsors Scott Central’s Beta Club and FBLA, FBLA is an organization that allows students to compete in business-related events and learn about business-related fields,

“It helps to promote leadership skills, knowledge about business-related occupations, and service to the community,” Glasener said.

Beta Club is an honor society that members can join if they are A or B honor roll students with no Ds or Fs and no behavioral issues.

“It is an academic-based organization that allows students to compete in categories ranging from arts to academics,” Glasener said.

Glasener said the two clubs will split the proceeds from the trivia night and silent auction.

“The funds will be used to help pay for registration, hotel and travel expenses for the state and national conferences,” Glasener said. “Our Beta Club took 16 Junior Beta and 30 Senior Beta members to the state convention this year. Both the Junior and Senior Beta Club members qualified for nationals this summer in Savannah, Georgia.”

According to Glasener, FBLA members will also be attending the State Leadership Conference in April and those who qualify for nationals will attend the event this summer in Orlando, Florida.

Glasener said this is the first year the two clubs have hosted a trivia night, and they are excited to raise the money for their state and national conferences.

Glasener said tickets for the trivia night are $10 per person for groups of up to eight people.

“People do not have to prepay for tickets, but they can — or they can purchase at the door,” Glasener said.

Glasener said students will be working the trivia night, which teaches them responsibility.

According to Glasener, it’s important for high school students to participate in clubs, especially Beta Club and FBLA.

“FBLA is important for students to be a part of because it helps show them how to work in businesses and shows them what it is to be a good citizen,” Glasener said. “And Beta club is important because it very much centered around helping others and community service.

She continued: “It covers everything and is an honor to be a part of, emphasizing academic achievement, character, leadership and service as the four pillars of Beta.”
