Duncan announces retirement from New Madrid County R-1

NEW MADRID, Mo. — The New Madrid County R-1 School District will have a new superintendent for the 2024-25 school year.

Dr. Sam Dunan recently announced his retirement effective June 30.

“I hope to assist with the search for my replacement to whatever extent I may be needed,” Duncan said. “I will then enjoy watching the District accelerate to the next level of excellence from a different seat in the house.”

According to Duncan, he will continue working in education and has accepted a full-time tenure-track teaching position at Southeast Missouri State University in the Educational Leadership Department.
