SIKESTON —The Swamp East Missouri Truck Show and Convoy is returning to Sikeston for the fourth year as is Sikeston Parks and Recreation’s Mighty Machines event, which is in its second year.

TW McDermott of Charleston, Missouri, organizes the Swamp East Missouri Truck Show and Convoy, which will take place April 19-20.

On April 19, the Swamp East Missouri Trucks will conduct a convoy parade from Sikeston to Charleston and back to the Sikeston Recreation Sports Complex.

“The lineup starts at 4 p.m. with the parade beginning at 5 p.m.,” said Abbi Lindsey, recreation coordinator for Sikeston Parks and Recreation. “Upon arrival back to the Complex, the trucks will do a light show for the community.”

According to Lindsey, vehicles, as well as food trucks and vendors, will be lined up along the north end of the Complex (soccer end) on April 20.

According to McDermott, the fee of entering a vehicle for the Truck Show and Convoy is $80, and vendor space is $100. April 20 registration and vendor setup start at 8 a.m.

According to Lindsey, there will also be an awards ceremony at 3 p.m. and a show conclusion at 4 p.m. The Kenny Rogers Children’s Center will receive all proceeds.

“In addition to the awesome event, the Sikeston Parks and Recreation will host the second annual Mighty Machines event,” Lindsey said.

The Mighty Machines event will take place at the Sikeston Sports Complex from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20,

“This is an ‘explore a truck’ event where kids can look at and climb inside an array of vehicles they may not typically be able to access,” Lindsey said. “From farm equipment to classic cars to city work vehicles like ambulances and even school buses — kids and adults alike can get up close and personal.”

According to Lindsey, the event will feature a variety of city-owned vehicles, including an ambulance, fire truck, SWAT truck, street sweeper, pickup truck and tractor.

Lindsey said they are still accepting registrations for anyone interested in competing with their formidable machines.

Lindsey described both events as “something fun and unique” for the community to enjoy.

“This is just a fun, unique event that families can attend for free on both Friday and Saturday,” Lindsey said. “The truck show isn’t something offered in town usually so for kids to be able to see souped up big trucks all in one place, while meeting the owners, is special. We’re excited the truck show committee has allowed us to join in by offering the Mighty Machines event so the community can see what other neat vehicles we have in the area.”
