Fire damages garage in Sikeston

SIKESTON — A Sikeston residence's detached garage was moderately damaged after catching fire early Friday, April 12.

At 9:19 a.m. Friday, officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety's Fire Division responded to the 100 block of Maplewood to the report of a structure fire, according to Capt. Derick Wheetley, fire division commander. Upon arrival, the crews located a detached garage with heavy smoke showing. Once entry was made, crews located a working fire and were able to extinguish it, he said. The garage received moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage. There was no damage to the residence, no injuries and the fire was determined to be electrical and no foul play, Wheetley said.
