SIKESTON — A Sikeston Department of Public Safety officer will be disciplined for policy violations following the investigation of a complaint the officer used excessive force.

Sikeston DPS Chief James McMillen said on March 30, DPS was made aware of a citizen complaint for excessive use of force. McMillen said he spoke with the complainant, and the incident was investigated with the help of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

“It was found that no crime was committed by the officer, but there were some sustained policy violations,” McMillen said in a news release late Friday, April 12. “We are issuing punitive discipline (i.e., suspension days) and some remedial discipline through in-service training.”
