Fire destroys mobile home in New Madrid

NEW MADRID, Mo. — In the evening hours of April 13, the fire department was paged to a house fire on the corner of Church and Waters streets in New Madrid.

A passerby called in that an unoccupied mobile home was on fire. When the fire department arrived on scene, there were already flames coming out of the windows and doors of the home. The fire was knocked down, and after several hours it was completely extinguished.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but at this time does not appear suspicious.

On the night of April 24, a man came to the police department and reported he had been robbed at gunpoint by two men on Tennessee Street. The victim gave a detailed description of both men and identified both of them.

A short time later, officers found the two suspects at New Mad Smoke, the vape shop in Villa Shopping Center. One was taken into custody without incident, but the other was tased by an officer after attempting to flee. Items belonging to victim, including a handgun, were recovered from the suspects.

One is currently being held on charges of first degree robbery and armed criminal action. The other suspect was released pending further investigation.
