PERRYVILLE, Mo. — A former Sikeston, Missouri, police officer was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison for the statutory rape of a child under 14 years old.

On May 3, Brian Louis Robinson, 35, of Sikeston was sentenced to serve 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections after being charged with one count of first-degree statutory rape with a person under 14, three counts of first-degree statutory sodomy with a person under 14, and two counts of first-degree child molestation, according to online court records.

Judge Benjamin Lewis sentenced Robinson to 20 years in prison on the rape and sodomy charges and 10 years in prison on the molestation charges with all sentences to run concurrently. He will serve at least 85% of his sentence.

Robinson pleaded guilty on Feb. 14 to the charges. The case was handled in Perry County court on a change of venue. Tristen Estep served as the special prosecuting attorney for the state.

Robinson was accused of sexual abuse in the summer of 2006, when the victim was 8 years old and Robinson was 18.

Robinson was a Sikeston Department of Public Safety officer when he was charged of the crimes in 2020.

Robinson was terminated after DPS learned of the Sept. 11, 2020, charges, according to Sikeston DPS Director Jim McMillen.

“We’re committed when something like this comes up with one of our officers to do the right thing and be transparent about it,” McMillen told the Standard Democrat in 2020.

McMillen said DPS does an extensive amount of work when looking at prospective employees, adding they have one of the strictest application processes in the area.

“You can do all that and still miss things,” McMillen said at the time. “It’s just unfortunate for something like this to happen.”
