Howardville man arrested after making drug deal across from police station

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — It wasn’t the best spot for a drug deal.

Brian Staffey of Howardville is being held on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance after he was observed taking part in a drug deal across from the Portageville Police Station.

In the probable cause statement, Police officer Joseph Denton said he observed the drug deal at 3:33 p.m. May 15 while at the police department.

Denton said he made contact with Staffey and requested permission to search him and his vehicle. A pipe with a white substance and a water bong with a white substance, both which field-tested positive for methamphetamine, were found.

According to the probable cause statement, Staffey admitted he had sold methamphetamine.

Staffey’s bond is set at $50,000.

A Portageville man was also arrested on drug-related charges.

At 11:30 p.m. May 13 officers with the Portageville Police Department served a search warrant at 507 Payne Avenue. According to Police Chief Ronnie Adams during the search officers located several narcotic-related items, along with a firearm.

Julius Wilson of Portageville was arrested and charged with the felonies of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.

Wilson’s bond is set at $25,000.
