New noise ordinance is adopted in New Madrid
NEW MADRID, Mo. - Things may get a little quieter in New Madrid.
Following approval by the New Madrid City Council, a new noise ordinance is in effect.
The ordinance makes it unlawful for an individual to have a device emitting sound from any vehicle that can be heard 100 feet away from the device. Violators can be ticketed on the first offense and on the second offense, those who have a previous conviction or have entered a guilty plea to violating the noise ordinance, can have the vehicle towed at the driver’s expense.
During the Council’s meeting conducted May 6, approval was given for the sale of a house owned by the City on Hunter Street for $85,000. According to City Administrator Aaron Griffin, the buyer was not local.
“We are excited to be bringing out-of-town people to our community,” Griffin said.
Also during the meeting, the Council authorized payment of $51,882.82 to Vandevanter Engineering for a pump. The pump will serve as a back-up for the pump at the storm water station across from the New Madrid Country Club.
Griffin is continuing to work with the engineers from Smith and Co. and Lilbourn Mayor Robert Taylor about New Madrid providing water to the town of Lilbourn. According to Griffin he is seeking a grant to fund the connection needed for the project.
