Letter: More Native American facts

Friday, May 31, 2024

Dear Editor:

In December 1862, there were 38 Dakota warriors hung all at one time. Later they were buried in shallow graves at Mankato, Minnesota. One of the 38 hung was a chief known as Cut Nose. These were 38 warriors defending their home land from foreign invaders. It is also this country’s largest hanging all at one time.

Dr. William Mayo after sunset dug up the body of Chief Cut Nose for medical study and demonstrations It was told by Googling this information, Mayo melted off the flesh and made a skeleton which he studied and allowed his sons to play with.

To learn more, do an online search for “the grave-robbing doctor from Rochester, William Mayo.” Then read, “St. Peter man returns warriors to spotlight local news.”
