SCOTT CITY, Mo. — A high-speed pursuit with law enforcement through multiple counties resulted in the arrest of a Scott City man in Morley, Missouri.

Lance David Pruden, 25, of Scott City is charged with resisting arrest by fleeing creating a substantial risk of serious injury/death to any person; prior DWI; careless and imprudent driving; and exceeding the posted speed limit (by 26 or more over the posted limit).

According Scott City Police Chief Chris Griggs, in the late-night hours of Monday, May 27 Scott City E-911 Communications received a report of a careless and imprudent driver in the area of Dearborn Street. It was reported a car was doing “burnouts” in that area. An off-duty Scott City officer reported hearing a vehicle at a funeral home doing “donuts” in the parking lot. The parking lot and vehicle were enveloped in smoke, Griggs said.

“Officers located the vehicle, attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle failed to yield to officers,” Griggs said. “The chase reached speeds of 100 mph in a marked 55 mph zone, and traveled throughout Scott County, into Mississippi County Missouri, at which time speeds reached 110 mph.”

The Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted and used Stop Sticks to deflate the tires of the vehicle; the vehicle continued and failed to stop for officers, according to Griggs. The chase continued at a slow rate of speed, violating several traffic laws. During the course of the chase, the suspect vehicle drove on the wrong side of the roadway into on-coming traffic, Griggs said. The vehicle finally came to a stop on U.S. Highway 61 in Morley. The driver of the vehicle was then identified as Pruden. He was taken into custody, arrested and transported to the Scott City Police Department.

“Mr. Pruden was uncooperative with officers and was very belligerent,” Griggs said in a news release. “Mr. Pruden was combative toward officers and refused to cooperate with the intake process “Officers obtained a search warrant for two vials of blood. Upon transporting Mr. Pruden to a hospital, he became physically combative toward oficers and pulled away from them.

The warrant was issued with no bond allowed. As of Friday, May 31, Pruden remained in custody at the Scott County Jail.

“We would like to thank The Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Morley Police Department for their assistance in the chase,” Griggs said.
