MORLEY, Mo. — Willidean “Peggy” Witthoft, daughter of the late Arnold Crowden and Ruby (Cochran) Nelson, was born on Sept. 1, 1948 in Randles, Missouri, and departed her life on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at her daughter’s residence in Morley at the age of 75.

Peggy was a member of the Morley Baptist Church where she was baptized on April 23, 2000. She was a former employee of Piggly Wiggly, cake decorator and cook for Food Giant for many years and was a member of the ladies auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars in Morley.

On March 26, 1965, she was united in marriage to James A. Burton. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1989. She then united in marriage to Thomas L. Witthoft on Dec. 30, 1995. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1996.

Survivors include: one son, Jimmy (Janie) Burton of St. Genevieve, Missouri; one daughter, Lora (Rodney) McCoy of Morley; two brothers, Jay Crowden of Gorham, Illinois, and Bud Crowden of Vanduser, Missouri; sister, Dorthy (Steve) Crider of Jonesboro, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; also, by other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Fred Nelson; one son, Michael Burton; and one sister, Shirley Rodgers.

Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Cobden Cemetery in Cobden, Illinois, with Michael Blissett and Rev. David Thompson officiating. Interment will follow.
