Vonda Barnes

SIKESTON — Vonda N. Barnes passed away on the evening of July 13, 2024, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born on June 25, 1929, in Morley, Missouri, to William A. and Beulah O’Neal Foster

On Jan. 20, 1952, she married Harley E. Barnes Jr. at the First Baptist Church in Sikeston.

She attended Southeast Missouri State University majoring in Elementary and Secondary Education. Her early years were spent teaching elementary grades in Vanduser, Morley and Oran. She taught in the Sikeston School District for many years, teaching in Middle School, Junior High and High School. She retired in 1983 after more than 30 years in the classroom. She was an avid reader, letter writer and bridge player.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Mike) Keefer; and son, Buddy Barnes; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by Harley, her husband of 62 years, five brothers and three sisters.

No memorial service will be held at this time.

She will be buried in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, at a later date.
