SIKESTON — Just after 2 p.m. Monday, July 15, officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to South Main and Stalcup streets for a motor-vehicle accident, according to Sgt. Tyler Rowe, public information officer with Sikeston DPS.

First-arriving officers observed one vehicle had struck the traffic light pole, and the other vehicle had come to a stop in the Hardee’s parking lot. After an investigation of the incident, it was determined a passenger-car tried to make a left turn onto General George E. Day Parkway and was struck by a truck traveling northbound on Main Street, Rowe said. The vehicle driving north on Main hit the passenger side of the car and then ran into the light pole. The passenger car that was struck was spun around and continued north on Main and into the Hardee’s parking lot.

There were two occupants in the passenger car; one occupant sustained non-life threatening injuries while the other occupant was transported by EMS to a nearby helipad to be flown by helicopter to the ambulance, Rowe said. That occupant’s condition remained unknown as of Tuesday afternoon. The driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Rowe noted a second crash occurred shortly after the first accident when one vehicle rear-ended the other. This was caused due to the driver looking at the other vehicles involved in the wreck, he said. Due to the nature of the crashes, the interscetion at Main and Stalcup was temperarily blocked by emergency vehicles, according to Rowe.
