MALDEN, Mo. – Kenneth Karl Thompson, 71, died at Mercy Hospital in Dexter, Missouri, on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024.

Ken was born Tuesday, April 21, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Price and Margaret (Peggy) Dutton Thompson of New Madrid, Missouri. On June 22, 1974, in New Madrid, he married Sandra E. Simpson of Lilbourn, Missouri, who survives.

Ken enlisted in the United States Air Force in December of 1971 and was stationed in many areas around the world including, Lackland AFB, Texas; Alamagordo, New Mexico; Kunsan, Korea; Rapid City, South Dakota; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Izmir, Turkey and Layton, Utah. He also had a few brief stops in such places as Saudi Arabia and Bitburg, Germany. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he returned to southeast Missouri and resided in Malden. Ken had worked at the VNA and most recently served as HR Director at DAEOC. Ken was also elected to the Malden City Council serving for eight years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Chandler Thompson.

He is survived by his four children, Chasity Thompson, Michelle Thompson, Anthony Thompson and Jonathon Thompson; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Malden at Landess Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
