Wanted: Affordable housing

I was wondering why the City of Sikeston is making it so hard to have affordable housing in town? They don’t want you to build these little, small homes. They want you to build what I would call mansions. They want you to build at least a $250,000-home. If you have a small lot, they don’t want you to build on it. News flash: Not everbyody in Sikeston is rich. There are working-class people. There are poor people. There are those on fixed income. There is no need in having so many hoops and so many hurdles you have to jump through just to be able to get a home so you can have a place to sleep and something that is yours. If you’re just one person, you don’t need a four- or five-bedroom home. Sikeston needs to wake up. Some of these neighborhoods have smaller lots, yes, they can build an old, shotgun-style home on it. If it looks nice and the preson keeps it up, so what’s the big deal? And why is there so many homes in that area behind Food Giant off of North Main where there’s grass growing four or five foot tall? There is no reason for that. One of them is because it’s a slumlord. The city said years ago it was going to do something about the slumlords and never has. Thank you.

We contacted City of Sikeston Communications Manager David Jenkins who provided the following response: “The City of Sikeston is aware of the need for affordable housing. Just in the last year there has been a housing summit with Sikeston officials, real estate officials and local developers to see how the city can improve the housing situation. However, the situation is one that won’t be fixed overnight and solutions are still being sought. The city encourages developers who want to bring all different sizes of homes, but ultimately it is up to the developer for the size and cost of homes they build.”

Get out and vote

Trump told Christians at a faith-focused event in Florida on July 26. “You’ve got to get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good, you’re not going to have to vote.” Is Trump telling us that if he is elected, he intends to convert the United States of America from a democracy to a dictatorship?

Tired of stupid voters

Just read a Speakout where a guy said he was tired of people voting stupid, and since he was pro-Trump, this confused me because voting Trump and complaining about billionaires running things is stupid, but then I realized that Trump himself is so stupid and that he is by no means a billionaire or a millionaire so I’m glad to know he is voting Harris and not Trump. Glad he is no longer stupid.

Be prepared

War is coming. It will be on USA soil this time. Prepare yourself.

Worried about weapons

Wondering is anyone else in Southeast Missouri worried about who has control of the nuclear and biological weapons arsenal? Evidently President Biden or Vice President Harris do not. They haven’t got a clue; they just do what they are told. How’s your feelings now, Democrat?
