Field day set for Monday in Sikeston
SIKESTON — For the first time, Sikeston AgriPark will host a Field Day on Monday, Sept. 9 when tenants from AgriPark, AgLaunch and University of Missouri Extension will share their research with all local farmers and producers.
The AgriPark Field Day will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Highway 61 North in Sikeston. Breakfast and coffee are served at 7:30 a.m. The event is free.
According to Zach Fayette, chairman of the AgriPark Committee, the AgriPark field day is an excellent opportunity for the AgriPark to publicly demonstrate the research conducted during the growing season.
“It allows the scientists behind the research to explain exactly what they’re studying to the farmers in the area with the hopes that it will benefit them,” Fayette said.
According to Fayette, Sikeston and the surrounding area are predominantly agrarian, and the AgriPark’s research is beneficial.
“The research that AgriPark conducts can benefit local farmers and thus our community,” Fayette said. “Our research is conducted in the same soil and with similar growing conditions so the farmers can determine which new opportunities or growing techniques might benefit them the best.”
Fayette said the programming will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, with the researchers briefly explaining their respective studies.
“Then, all participants will be able to walk in the field to see the studies in person,” Fayette said.
According to Fayette, anyone is welcome to attend the field day.
“We hope to see farmers and students and anyone involved in the Sikeston-area agriculture industry,” Fayette said.
Fayette said the ultimate goal is to provide value to the local farming community, which is the largest industry in the area.
According to Taylor Deere, Sikeston Regional Chamber membership and program director, event organizers are very excited to have a field day.
“We are beyond excited to have AgLaunch out of Memphis as well as MU Extension on site for the AgriPark Field Day,” Deere said. “This is valuable information for our area farmers, but the event is also a great opportunity to connect with others in the agriculture industry.”
