19 SHS seniors vying for Miss Sikeston crown
SIKESTON — Nineteen Sikeston High School seniors will vie for the Miss Sikeston crown at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 during the final night of the 80th Annual American Legion Cotton Carnival at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo grounds.
Caroline Blanton, who is the daughter of Kevin and Amy Blanton, is the president of DECA, Key Club and ASTRA and co-editor-in-chief of the Bulldog Barker school newspaper. She is also active in the National Honor Society, Red Peppers and Student Council, and she is a student leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Her hobbies include baking and calligraphy. She plans to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia and major in journalism. After college, she may attend divinity school.
The daughter of David Borges, Cheryl Ozment and the late Samantha Fitzgerald, Abigail Borges is active in the marching band/color guard and soccer. She also participates in Red Peppers, FTA, Key Club and ASTRA Club. In her spare time, she enjoys going out and enjoying nature and sunsets. After high school, she plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University for two years and then attend Southeast Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences to become a registered nurse.
Mi’Chenze Coaker, daughter of Tyanna Coaker and the late Michael Coaker Sr., is an SHS cheerleader and College Ambassadors president. She also participates in the A+ program, National Honor Society, Red Peppers, Link Crew, Student Council and FTA. English is her favorite subject, and in her spare time, she loves to cook with family, shopping with her sister and spending quality time with loved ones. She plans to attend a renowned historically black college or university to pursue a degree in nursing.
Leah Coppage, who is the daughter of Anthony and Tracy Coppage, is a sideline and competition cheerleader, National Honor Society president, Interact Club president and Student Council representative. Science and English are her favorite subjects in school. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia where she will major in nursing. She hopes to work as a family nurse practitioner.
The daughter of Laurie and Andrew Eason, Landry Eason serves as the student body vice president. She is active in varsity cheer, varsity soccer, Red Peppers, Key Club, DECA, Link Crew, Inspired Presenters, A+ tutoring mentor, and she’s a member of the Growler yearbook staff. Her hobbies include volunteering for many local organizations and spending time with family. She plans to attend a four-year university and major in speech pathology.
Alanna Jones is the daughter of Andrew and Amanda Jones. She is a member of varsity soccer and tennis, section leader for marching band, and she is active in the Red Peppers, College Ambassadors, ASTRA, National Honor Society, Link Crew, A+ program, Skills USA, FTA, FCA, concert band, hunting and fishing. Her favorite subjects are medical innovation and anatomy and physiology. She plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and ultimately become a registered nurse.
Rehanna Jones, who is the daughter of Crystal Steward, is a member of the dance team and Red Peppers. In her spare time, she works outside of school at a fast food restaurant. Her favorite subject is social studies. After high school, she plans to join the military while also completing nursing school, ultimately becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
Kylin Laffoon is the daughter of Ryann and Steve Addison. She is active in cheerleading, Student Council, Key Club, FCA, National Honor Society and Inspired Presenters. Her hobbies include drawing, traveling, listening to music and hanging out with her friends. Art class is her favorite subject in school. She plans to attend a four-year university to major in business marketing and minor in graphic design.
The daughter of Lelicia and Antonio Barron, Laura Martinez participates in marching and concert band, DECA, ASTRA, Key Club and cadet teaching. In her free time, she enjoys being a camp counselor, working at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, listening to music and riding around with friends. Marching and symphonic band are her favorite classes in school. After graduation, she plans to attend college to become a speech pathologist.
Mich’aiables Mays, who is the daughter of Cynthia Davis, is a Fellowshiop of Christian Athletes student leader and Link Crew leader. She is active in Speech and Debate, Drama Club and Skills USA. In her free time, she enjoys being a Sunday school teacher and praise dancer. English/ language arts is her favorite subject in school. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year college and earn a master’s degree in education.
Zoe Perry, daughter of Jason and Lynsey Perry, is active in the Red Peppers, Grow Your Own Teachers, Link Crew, College Ambassadors, Speech and Debate, FTA, FBLA and DECA. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, singing, writing, hanging with friends, going to church and getting stronger in her faith in Jesus. English is her favorite subject. After graduation, she plans to attend Ole Miss to major in pre-medicine and minor in journalism. She wants to be a neonatologist.
The daughter of Jennifer and Tyler Presley, Hailey Presley has been a member of the varsity cheer team and varsity soccer team for four years. She is active in Red Peppers and the National Honor Society. Her favorite hobby is painting, and her favorite subject in school is science. She also enjoys riding dirt bikes. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year university to receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Anne Sovilla, who is the daughter of Sarah Wright, is the vice president of finance for DECA, secretary for Key Club, president of World Language Club, FCA leader, FBLA member and Link Crew leader. She is also active in the Red Peppers and Student Council. In her free time, she enjoys lifeguarding, painting, exercising, traveling and crocheting. Science is her favorite subject in school. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year university and proceed to medical school where she wants to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery.
Lorelei Standridge, daughter of Danielle Stokes and Brian Standridge, has served as a cheerleader all four years of high school and as head cheerleader and a Red Pepper officer. She is a member of National Honor Society, Link Crew, Inspired Presenters, Future Teachers of America and SOAR (Students Observing Area Resources). Government is her favorite subject in school. After graduation, she plans to become a cheerleader at Drury University where she will major in health sciences to become an ultrasound technician.
The daughter of Dinelle Kersey, Brooklyn Wallace participates in the marching band, symphonic band, tutoring, FCA and the A+ program. She is the flute section leader. Her hobbies include baking, volunteering at a local nursing home, painting and bible study. Emergency Medical Services and Biomedical Sciences are her favorite subjects in school. After graduation, she wants to attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in technical laboratory sciences.
Evylen Walton, daughter of Dr. Jeffrey and Carrie Walton, serves as the vice president of the National Honor Society, and she is a member of the varsity cheerleading and soccer teams. She is a Sikeston Red Pepper, A+ tutor, DECA member, Inspired Presenter, and she’s a part of the yearbook team. In her free time, she loves spending time with her friends and family, especially at the lake getting thrown off tubes and jet skiing. Biomedical science is her favorite subject, and she plans to attend the University of Missouri to pursue a career in the medical field.
Kylin Woodruff, who is the daughter of Walter and Danielle Woodruff, is active in the Red Peppers, Sikeston Marching Bulldogs, ASTRA Club, Art Club, Drama Club, Science Club and A+ Tutoring. In her spare time, she enjoys being a member of American Legion Jr. Auxiliary, St. Francis Xavier Youth Group and Sikeston Little Theatre. She works at a veterinarian’s office and loves to get lost in a good book. She plans to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia and obtain her degree in biochemistry or biology and then pursue her doctorate in toxicology at Penn State.
Natalie Wright is the daughter of Adam and Amanda Wright. She is active in FFA, soccer, Red Peppers and Skills USA. Her hobbies include tending to the school’s greenhouse, playing pickleball with her little sisters and creative writing. English and health occupations are her favorite subjects. After graduation, she plans to attend Arkansas State University to earn a Bachelor of Science in nursing.
Braidy Young, the daughter of Janna Shelby and the late Justin Young, is active in cheerleading, Red Peppers, Link Crew, Inspired Presenters, Key Club, Interact Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In her spare time, she works part-time as a barista, loves to read, play golf with her family and loves attending Discover Life Church every Sunday. After graduation, she plans to begin the nursing program at Southeast Missouri State University.
