Lamb indicted, charged with the murder of Mischelle Lawless
BENTON, Mo. — An investigation by a Scott County special prosecutor has resulted in the indictment of a former Sikeston resident for the murder of Angela Mischelle Lawless.
Lawless, 19, was murdered around 1 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 1992, in the vicinity of the 80-mile marker, northbound exit ramp of Interstate 55 and Missouri Highway 77 in Benton/Scott County.
On June 7, 2023, Scott County Special Prosecuting Attorney Allen E. Moss Jr. was appointed as special prosecuting attorney to investigate and prosecute the person(s) responsible for the murder of Lawless.
According to a news release issued Friday, Dec. 20 from Moss' office, following an 18-month investigation, it was determined that sufficient evidence existed to bring the case before a Scott County Grand Jury.
Based on the evidence presented to the Grand Jury, an indictment for felony was issued, and Leon P. Lamb, 52, formerly of Sikeston, has been charged with murder in the first degree and armed criminal action for the murder of Lawless.
On Friday, Dec. 20, Lamb was arrested in Conway, Arkansas, and is being held without bond, the news release said. According to previous reports, Lamb was Lawless' former boyfriend at the time of her death and the last known person to see her alive.
Moss said additional information will be made available at a later time.
