Able to cook, clean, and care with a single heart -- it's Super-Mom
The other night as I was taking care of my sick teenage daughter, doing laundry, cooking up lesson plan ideas, taking care of doggie duties, and texting my boyfriend back, I swear I felt my head spin right off.
Always so much to do and so little time to do it in and curse anything that stands in the way of getting it done.
While laying there watching me run around like the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, my daughter, Lexi, lifts her head up to look at me. I bring her out the big green bowl we use especially for upchucking. Poor thing. She moans out a sickly thank you and then adds, "you're my super-mom!"
Super-Mom. Hmm. A pretty accurate dubbing I'd say. Am I special? No. Can I leap tall buildings in a single bound? No way. I'm not even coordinated enough to jump rope. I can, however, cram two loads of laundry into one dryer. Does that count?
It made me stop and think though. If I could have a much needed super power, what would it be? Easy! I'd want to be able to snap my fingers and multiply myself by the number of tasks I have to do in a day. This way I could get all my daily duties completed quickly, easily, and efficiently leaving me with more time for my daughter, more time for my sweetie, and more time for myself. What does all of that equal? Less mom-guilt, more quality time where needed all around, and maybe a little more sanity and organization back in my life. Ok. Maybe not the organization part. I've never been good at that. On second thought, maybe not the sanity thing either, but two out of four isn't bad, right?
Honestly, life is busy, plain and simple. Who among us wouldn't want a super power? Especially when it comes to single parenting. Taking on the duties of both mom and dad and being a professional often mean little time for yourself. So I guess what we, as single parents and other busy individuals, should be doing is taking care of ourselves. You know, eating right, exercising, getting plenty of sleep to give us that extra boost of energy and keep us healthy. (I know, I laughed at the sleep thing, too). Other than that, however, it's not completely impossible. Just difficult to maintain in the already frenzied schedule of things. At this time in my life I've promised myself to at least work on the daily exercise routine. Maybe a boost of endorphins will give me more natural energy. I'll let you know how it goes. Of course, I'll have to have my coffee first. Eating healthy? No time. Sleep? Who needs it? (Ha! Me. That's who.)That and a glass of wine.
Yea...super powers would be nice. Who wouldn't agree to that?
