I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. I was married to my wife, Angie, in May of 2014. I love to golf, I am an avid NBA2K gamer and root for the Fighting Irish on Saturdays.

If you haven't heard the story, or need a quick refresher before Thursday's draft, here's bleacherreport.com's CJ Moore's take on one of southeast Missouri's favorite sons: Otto Porter.

Longtime SCC head coach Ronnie Cookson makes the article complete. He's always chocked-full of great insight and even more laughs with his countless stories. Your's truly even makes a small cameo cementing the fact that once Mr. Moore was done talking to the Cookson's and McFerren's of the world, he started scrapping the bottom of the barrel for guys like me.

On a serious note, it's really an honor and very cool to play a very small part in the culmination of Porter's career. I, among countless others around the area, witnessed firsthand some great things when 'Bubba' donned the Orange and Black and continued to do so when he was a Hoya. As he takes his next step into professional basketball, I know his fans in Scott County will be glued to the TV to see where their superstar lands and then follow his, hopefully, prosperous and tenured career in the NBA.

I'll be one of them. That's for sure.
