I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. I was married to my wife, Angie, in May of 2014. I love to golf, I am an avid NBA2K gamer and root for the Fighting Irish on Saturdays.

We said Dexter wouldn't get a win. But, by golly, they did.

Kudos to the entire Bearcat roster, staff and fans for their win. It's a very bright spot for a struggling program at the moment. Let's hope things keep going up.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, here is this week's episode of The Last Word. Enjoy!

I don't think you guys have to keep apologizing for picking against Dexter. Even as a fan of Caruthersville, I've picked against them a few times. Sometimes a team is just overmatched. I don't think that's the case with NMCC/Dexter because I feel Dexter can beat them, but I still give a slight edge to Dexter.

About Peden, he really isn't helping himself win over the Dexter community. The media(you guys) are supposed to be impartial when covering sports. A lot of people don't understand that and respect that. I think I'd use my words a little better when describing why a team will lose because I can see where some may take it as disrespect(because I felt the same way about you guys after Cville's week 1 beatdown by Liberty lol), but I don't think you guys are meaning it that way. Peden needs to put on his big boy pants and take criticism a little better, it's a part of the job.
