I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. I was married to my wife, Angie, in May of 2014. I love to golf, I am an avid NBA2K gamer and root for the Fighting Irish on Saturdays.

SEMO football is used to getting overlooked in the other parts of the state. You probably won't believe this but I think that SEMO has earned that reputation. We have had some very good teams come out of the area but compared to the other schools, we just can't compete. Other than Valle in Class 1, SEMO just doesn't have enough state titles to earn that respect, and until we start winning more title in the other classes, it won't ever change.

I think Caruthersville has earned their ranking in the top 10. That guys is a complete joke. I don't think Cville is a top 3 team, but they are definitely worthy of their 5 spot. They make the Quarters just about every year and some years, even the Final Four. What people in the other parts of the state tend to forget is this. Semo can't pull players from all directions like the other schools can. Take Lamar for instance, they have over 70 kids on their roster, 70!!! A class 2 school should NEVER have that many kids on a roster. That's 15-20% of the school population. Caruthersville and other Class 2 schools in Semo are lucky to get 30 kids on a roster. What hurts Caruthersville when you play teams like Liberty and Lamar is depth. Cville starters can hang with just about anyone in their class other than Lamar of course. Its the quality of players that come in off the bench that usually make the difference. We have guys playing both ways for the most part while the upper tier teams can rotate fresh guys every 6-7 plays. It's just the way it is.

Lack of competition also affects SEMO. We(speaking for SEMO as a whole) just never have enough quality teams to face in our area. You have your usual schools who do well, Sikeston,Caruthersville,Valle,SG, and Jackson here recently, but other than that, there usually just isn't enough quality teams to play. You have your other teams in the area who have good season's here and there but it's nothing compared to other areas. SEMO schools can travel to Stl area to play other great teams but who wants to travel 2-3 hours just to play a game? Teams like Lamar have so many good teams near by it's easy for them to have a quality schedule. Until SEMO as a whole wins more titles, expect more disrespect from douches like that guy..

Wonder if that goofy sportswriter you guys quoted will eat some humble pie after SEMO teams dominated a lot of non-SEMO teams tonight? Only exception was Hickman's OT win over Jackson.

I appologize for my recent comment after watching the weekly football show. Anyone who does not think Caruthersville is in the Top 10 in Class 2 is unbiased or mentally challenged.
