SIKESTON — A Sikeston man faces felony charges following an altercation that escalated to an alleged assault with a weapon.

Markques Terrell Reed, 36, is charged with first degree assault, unlawful possession of weapon, unlawful use of weapon, resisting arrest and armed criminal action

At about 6:58 p.m. Sunday, officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the 100 block of West Totter Street for a report of two subjects fighting, according to Capt. Austin Henley wit DPS. Upon arrival, officers located one of the subjects with a laceration to his head and lip and some other injuries.

The investigation revealed that the disturbance was a carryover from a previous altercation on East Malone Avenue, Henley said. The victim advised he was stabbed with an object by the suspect — who was identified as Reed, and the suspect left the scene.

Witnesses also reported that the two subjects had been in an altercation on East Malone just prior to this incident, Henley said.

The investigation continued, and at approximately 10:33 a.m. Monday, Reed was taken into custody for the incident. Bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety.

Reed was arraigned Wednesday before Judge Zach Horack, and during the hearing, Reed requested a public defender and bond reduction, which was denied. A bond reduction hearing was scheduled for 1 p.m. Sept. 11 in Scott County Associate Division Court.
