SIKESTON -- Many Sikeston High School seniors and juniors will already have made their first prom memory before they even arrive at Saturday's event, thanks to a recent trend.

"Everybody who is taking someone to prom now will do a 'promposal' to ask them," said Sikeston High School junior Logan Hampton, 17. "Most people are kind of disappointed if they don't get asked with a promposal."

Sikeston High School junior Katie Smith said she wasn't expecting a promposal because she and her date had already decided they were going to go together.

"It was a complete surprise," Katie said about date's decision to do a promposal.

As it was the weekend before her birthday, Katie didn't have the prom on her mind when she went to a friend's bonfire.

"As I pulled up there was music playing and a bunch of guys dancing in the bed of a truck," she said.
