The Portageville Jaycees were re-established over the summer and have already held two fundraising events.
During the month of August, the Jaycees hosted two pool tournaments and raised over $1400.
The first tournament was hosted by Klipfel's Korner of Portageville. There were over 26 players competing, with first, second and third place winners receiving trophies and a portion of the entry fees. Daniel Brasher won first prize, Justin Cawhorn won second, and Chuck Bulla won third.
The second tournament, held two weeks later, was hosted by T-Ray's, out of Wardell. There were 19 players competing, and again, first, second and third place winners received trophies and a portion of the entry fees. Duke Mainord placed first, Sam Barnett second, and Chuck Bulla finished third.
In addition to Klipfel's Korner and T-Ray's, a number of businesses donated to these events. D&D Wrecker & Repair of Portageville provided barbecue from Chubby's BBQ for the events and donated $100 cash. Ralph Distributing out of Sikeston donated a banner for the events. Katie's Diner and Gator's Pizza, both of Portageville, contributed to these fundraisers as well.
A portion of all money earned during Jaycee events will be going back into the community throughout the year.
