PORTAGEVILLE - Herman Vernon Duckworth, 80, of Portageville died July 3, 2003, at Pemiscot Memorial Nursing Home in Hayti.
Born Feb. 22, 1923, in Portageville to the late Corda Whitley Duckworth and Charles Duckworth, he was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army and received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 7183 in Lilbourn.
On March 10, 1978, in Lilbourn, he married Lily Young Finney who survives of the home.
Also surviving are: two daughters and sons-in-law, Gale and Buddy Bethel of Scott City and Rose Mary and Tom Williams of Marston; two grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffery and Anne Williams of Nashville, Tenn., and Steven and Andrea Williams of Sleepie Hollow, Ill.; one great-grandchild, Hiatt Williams of Nashville; a nephew, Scott Patterson of Portageville, and a niece, Gwen Swims of Portageville.
He was also preceded in death by: two sons, Ronald and David Finney; one brother, Ray Duckworth; five sisters, Imogene Patterson, Myrtle Lewis, Ruth Fox, Minnie Testory and Jessie Butts; and one grandson, Randy Finney.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the DeLisle Funeral Home Chapel with Shirrell Smith officiating.
Burial with full military rites will follow in the Portageville cemetery.
