SIKESTON - Joseph Lee Applewhite, 73, died July 30, 2017, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born May 29, 1944, in Sikeston, to the late Albert and Hazel McCauley Applewhite, he retired from Noranda Aluminum Inc. at New Madrid after 30 years of service.

He was married to Erma Jean Barnhill for more than 35 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph and Torrie Applewhite and Michael and Kesha Applewhite of Grand Rapids, Mich., Timothy Applewhite of Atlanta and Antwan Barnhill of Cape Girardeau; four daughters and one son-in-law, Pamela Applewhite and Veronica Applewhite of Grand Rapids, Mich., Sheryl Applewhite of Tampa, Fla., and Renee and Steve Flye of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Ezell Applewhite and James Applewhite of Sikeston, Leon Applewhite of Chicago and Lorenzo Applewhite of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Irene Applewhite, Ida Applewhite and Mary Ann Applewhite of Sikeston and Willie Applewhite of Chicago; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until time of services at 3 p.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston.

Interment will follow in Sunset of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston with the Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston in charge of arrangements.
