CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Richard Warren Hearnes Jr., 78, died May 12, 2017.
Born March 20, 1939, in Charleston, son of the late Richard Warren Hearnes and Dorothy Brown Hearnes, his family moved frequently and lived in Maine; New Jersey; West Virginia; Shreveport, La.; and Independence. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence in 1957. His parents returned to Charleston in 1960. After living in Cape Girardeau, he moved to St. Louis, and in 1967 he and his family moved to Kirkwood, where they lived until 2012. He was a civil engineer with a degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He finished his engineering career as a city engineer for the City of Creve Coeur.
On June 7, 1961, in Charleston, he married Suzanne Evans, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two daughters, Heather (Paul Allen and the late Michael) Kelley and Leslie (Marty) Huggins; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston. The Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Burial will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
