SIKESTON - Battling heat, only slightly less torrid than its own bats, sewed up the District 14 American Legion baseball title Saturday by clubbing Poplar Bluff 14-4 in five innings.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual Redneck BBQ Cook-off. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Chamber grounds the race will be on to see who in the community has the best recipe for barbecue ribs. "It will be blind judging," pointed out Chamber Executive Director Steve McPheeters. "The judges will not be able to identify the contestants' entries. It will be a tough choice, it will all be good." Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Red team was red hot in Thursday's games of the Sikeston Invitational Rookie League Tournament. Sikeston Red had a total of 42 hits and 24 runs in their two games against Quilin and the Sikeston Black team. The Sikeston Red team outscored the Sikeston Black team 16-7 in four innings.
