Lady Bearcats snap losing skid

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, defeating Nerinx Hall 72-65 in the Notre Dame Shootout.

The game featured many lead changes but the Lady Bearcats used solid free throw shooting to put the game away in the fourth quarter. Dexter hit 10-of-14 free throws in the final quarter while the Markers were only able to make 2-of-7 as Dexter pulled away late in the contest.

The game was tied 36-36 at halftime, but Nerinx Hall came out of locker rooms on fire, scoring two quick baskets to go ahead 40-36. Dexter was unphased and answered with a 12-0 run that gave the Lady Bearcats the biggest lead of the game at 56-47.

The Markers added a basket to end the third quarter, then went on an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter, regaining the lead 57-56. The teams then went back-and-forth for the most of the quarter until the Lady Bearcats used free throws to extend the lead late.

Brittany Harris led Dexter (9-8) with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman Hannah Noe added 16, including 7-of-8 from the free throw line, while sophomore Katelynn Frazier finished with 14.

NMCC 44, Naylor 39

POPLAR BLUFF -- The New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles defeated the Naylor Lady Eagles on Saturday, 44-39, at Three Rivers Community College.

Karen McGloson poured in a team-high 19 points to help NMCC (7-6) down a Class 1 final four team from a year ago. Benesha Childress added 11 points in the win.

NMCC will travel to Malden for their next game on Jan. 31.
