SIKESTON -- A wild finish against visiting Poplar Bluff saw the Sikeston junior varsity Bulldogs come just short when going for the win in overtime.

Trailing by eight points with 37 seconds left in regulation, Darien Boyd gave the Bulldogs new life, scoring on a 3-yard run.

Needing the 2-point conversion to force overtime, the Bulldogs gave the ball to Boyd once again with Boyd finding the goal line to tie things up.

After Poplar Bluff scored on a 10-yard run on their third snap in overtime, Sikeston answered with an 18-yard touchdown pass from David Foster to Kenton Robinson to leave the Bulldogs down by one as the Mules were successful on their earlier point-after attempt.

Rather than tie it up with a kick, however, Sikeston went for the win with a screen pass to the right side that wound up unsuccessful.

The loss leaves the Bulldogs at 2-2 going in to their next game Monday, when they travel to Jackson to play the Indians following the freshman game that begins at 4:30 p.m.

Sikeston downed Poplar Bluff in freshman action Monday night for their first win of the season but no further information on the game was available.
