CHARLESTON -- Usually when you have a combination of good pitching and good defense your put in good position to win. The Charleston Squirrels had both in their opening round game of the nutsbaseball.com Woodfest tournament on Thursday night.

All the Squirrels needed was four runs over the course of seven innings while Zach Wilson did the rest on the mound as Charleston defeated the Cape Girardeau Legion team 4-0.

"Zach had command of everything," Charleston head coach Michael Minner said. "As he went on he got stronger. We played excellent defense tonight. He didn't strike a whole lot of kids out but we made plays. That's just a tremendous team effort."

Wilson threw a complete game shutout by allowing only four hits. He also struck out five and walked four. Three of his allowed four hits came in the fourth inning where Wilson and the Squirrels defense worked out of a bases loaded jam.
