Caruthersville blasts E.P.; West Plains defeats P.B.

EAST PRAIRIE -- Unbeaten Caruthersville rolled past East Prairie 54-8 on its inevitable march to a state playoff berth.

The Tigers (10-0), a 2003 state semifinalist, captured their second straight Class 2, District 1 title. Caruthersville meets District 2 champion Charleston on Wednesday at Charleston.

Caruthersville dominated on both sides of the ball with 412 yards of total offense to 180 for East Prairie.

Tailback Adam Cecil led the Tiger ground game with 194 yards on 12 carries with three touchdowns, including a 96 yarder. Cecil also ran for three two-point conversions and caught a touchdown pass.

Quarterback Keith Creekmore had another solid outing completing 7-of-14 for 167 yards and two scores, one to Cecil and another to receiver Kyle Hubbard.

Hubbard also scored on an 35-yard punt return.

The Eagles (3-7) managed 117 rushing yards and 63 through the air.

POPLAR BLUFF -- West Plains wrapped up its first district title since 1985 with a 41-27 win over Poplar Bluff on Thursday.

The Zizzers (6-4) swept Class 4, District 1 opponents which included Cape Central and Sikeston.

After falling behind 21-7 in the first half, the Mules rallied for two scores to lead 27-21 at the half.

Quarterback Mark Gum completed 18-of-39 passes for 345 yards with three scores.
