CHARLESTON - The Sikeston junior varsity football team won its season opener on Tuesday with a 26-12 victory on the road against Charleston.

Sikeston got on the board first when quarterback Joey Williams plunged in from three yards out which was set up by a Michael Geralds 75-yard run.

Charleston tied the score at 6-6 but it was short-lived. Sikeston took the lead for good in the second quarter when Williams hit Julian Beard for a 60-yard touchdown pass. Brujae Lane scored on the two-point conversion run to make it 14-6 at the half.

Charleston trimmed the lead to 14-12 in the third quarter.

Sikeston extended the lead to 20-12 when Williams took a quarterback sneak 40 yards up the middle for the touchdown.

Trey Oetting provided a five-yard touchdown run for some added insurance to give the Bulldogs a 26-12 lead. Sikeston will host Cape Central on Monday at 6 p.m.
